The Tianshan Converter Station in Hami, Xinjiang, Aug. 28, 2024. The ±800kV Southern Hami-Zhengzhou UHVDC Transmission Project is the first ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project under China's strategy to transmit electricity from Xinjiang in the northwest to central China. Starting from the Tianshan Converter Station, the project spans 2,192 kilometers across six provinces and autonomous regions — Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan — ending at the Zhongzhou Converter Station in Zhengzhou, Henan province. With a rated voltage of ±800kV, a rated DC of 5,000A, and a rated transmission capacity of 8,000MW, it can deliver 50 billion kWh of electricity to central China annually.
